The City of Rockledge which was founded on August 7, 1887, is the oldest incorporated municipality in Brevard County. Rockledge was founded on the shoreline of the Indian River Lagoon and covers approximately 11.5 square miles. Rockledge is 19 miles N of Melbourne (center to center). Rockledge estimates to have more than 26,000 residents. Previously, the economy of this area was based on the citrus trade and accommodation for tourists traveling to South Florida. Presently, it focuses greatly on technology and aerospace. The average median income is just over $50,000 annually
Rockledge is a full service community, providing everything from law enforcement, fire protection to emergency medical technicians. Rockledge also provides trash and recycling collection, sanitary sewer services and a Public Works department responsible for streets, roads and other infrastructure.

Rockledge also enjoys a wide variety of available commercial centers to meet the needs of its residents. Rockledge houses Wuesthoff Health System, which is Brevard County Florida’s leading comprehensive healthcare provider. Wuesthoff is a full service acute care hospital with a full complement of health service affiliates that comprise the system.
Rockledge also has five public schools, three private schools and churches of various denominations.
Rockledge has a number of well built parks with softball, soccer and football complexes. Rockledge is home to several high school state titles in different sports including football.
